| The History Of Prime |
| 1953 |
Anna and Charlie Scheer launched Prime Automotive on Sept.18, 1953 |
| 1953-64 |
Charlie, at age 32, had been in business with his father as a rebuilder of auto parts. Taking his knowledge of the rebuilt business, he originated a "wholesale warehouse distribution of rebuilt parts." This was a unique concept, since at that time all jobbers bought these types of product from specialists, (brakes from a brake bonder, starters & alternators from an electrical rebuilder.)The business concept was an immediate success. Starting in the 1950's Prime grew and prospered as it added employees and gave weekly truck delivery to the tri-state area of NY,NJ and CT. |
| 1965 |
A 2nd location was opened in Hillside, NJ. It featured Daily Delivery Service. |
| 1968 |
"New" products lines like Exhaust, Gaskets and Shocks were added to the Rebuilt offerings. |
| 1978 |
Prime celebrated its 25th Anniversary and consolidated its Queens, NY operations into the Glendale Warehouse/Office, its present location. With Bob, Chuck and Gina Scheer implementing Charlie's motto, "Service, Availability, and Good Looks!" the company saw substantial growth. |
| 1979 |
Charlie was acknowledged by the automotive industry, as the recipient of the prestigious SOLID GOLD DISTRIBUTOR award. |
| 1979 |
After many years using EZ-Way Inventory Card System, Prime computerized its operations by moving onto the IBM System 34 Platform. Our In-House programming department continues their long relationship with IBM as the business is run on the latest IBM I-Series Servers. |
| 1981 |
Prime joined the Auto Value group, which became the Alliance Group, giving Prime Automotive an edge. |
| 1982 |
Prime instituted a 3rd shift and has been a 24 hour operation ever since. In years to follow, Charlie and Anna's 3 other daughters, Diana, Loretta and Maureen joined the company and quickly learned the ingredients to help Prime develop as a family business. |
